<![CDATA[Snowball Throwing Technique in Teaching Reading Descriptive Text of Animal to the 8th Graders of Junior High School Uvie Luthfiyatul Arofah English Education, Language and Art Faculty, State University Surabaya uvienajem@gmail.com Abstrak Untuk memahami teks, seseorang harus melakukan aktifitas yang disebut membaca. Terkadang, para siswa menghadapi kesulitan untuk memahami isi teks. Dalam masalah ini, Teknik Melempar Bola Salju dapat diaplikasikan dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar dengan tujuan untuk membantu para siswa memahami isi teks. Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan bagaimana pengaplikasian Teknik Melempar Bola Salju, pemahaman siswa terhadap teks, dan respon siswa terhadap teknik yang telah diaplikasikan didalam kelas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dalam proses mengumpulkan data dan menjawab rumusan masalah. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah guru mengaplikasikan Teknik Melempar Bola Salju selama dua kali dengan menggunakan materi yang berbeda. Berdasarkan hasil pemahaman siswa terhadap teks dapat disimpulkan bahwa tekhnik ini dapat membantu siswa dalam memahami teks. Kata Kunci : Teknik Melmpar Bola Salju, membaca memahami, deskriptif teks. Abstract In understanding a text, people need to do an activity that is reading. Sometimes, the students are difficult to comprehend the text. In this case, Snowball Throwing Technique can be applied in teaching learning process in order to help the students comprehend the text. This study aims to describe how is the implementation of snowball throwing technique, the students reading comprehension, and the students’ responses toward the implementation of Snowball Throwing Technique. Qualitative research was employed to collect the data and answer the research questions. The findings show that the teacher applied Snowball Throwing Technique in teaching reading descriptive text twice by using different material. The results of the students reading comprehension show that this technique can help the students comprehend the text easily.
