THE USE OF STUDENTS’ QUESTIONING STRATEGY TO ENHANCE THE TENTH GRADERS’ READING COMPREHENSION Ella Martha Sari Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FBS Universitas Negeri Surabaya (ellamarsaa@gmail.com) Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan dalam pemahaman membaca siswa setelah diajarkan menggunakan strategi soal-jawab siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian eksperimental kuantitatif. Sampel dari penelitian ini diambil menggunakan jenis penarikan contoh kelompok acak yang dipersempit menggunakan desain tugas acak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai kelas eksperimental dan kontrol setelah kelompok eksperimental mendapatkan pengajaran menggunakan strategi soal-jawab siswa. mengalami perbedaan yang signifikan, dimana kelompok eksperimental (80.33, SD=7.871) mendapat rata-rata nilai lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol (70.33, SD=12.030). Selain itu, hasil Sig. (2-tailed) dari perbandingan yaitu .000 yang mana apabila hasilnya dibawah .05, maka terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara 2 subjek yang dibandingkan. Selanjutnya, hasil perhitungan dari eta kuadrat menunjukkan bahwa penerapan strategi soal-jawab siswa memberikan efek besar (.20) terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa. Berdasarkan penemuan di atas, peneliti menyarankan bahwa strategi soal-jawab siswa dapat digunakan sebagai strategi membaca untuk meningkatkan pemahaman siswa. Kata Kunci: Strategi Soal-Jawab, Strategi Membaca, Pemahaman Membaca Abstract This study aims to know the significant difference of the students’ reading comprehension after being taught using students’ questioning strategy. This study used quantitative experimental research design. The sample of this study was taken by using random cluster sampling which was narrowed down into random assignment design. The result showed that there was significant difference between experimental and control group’ mean score after the experimental group taught using students’ questioning strategy. The experimental group (80.33, SD=7.871) got higher mean score than the control group (70.33, SD=12.030). Besides, the result of the Sig. (2-tailed) value of the comparison which was .000 that meant if it was less than .05, there was significant difference between the subjects compared. Moreover, the eta square calculation result also showed that the use of students’ questioning strategy gave large effect (.20) on the students’ reading comprehension. Thus, it is suggested that students’ questioning strategy can be used as a reading strategy to enhance students’ reading comprehension.
