PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN LEM PUTIH POLY VINYL ACETATE (PVAC) TERHADAP PERILAKU FISIK DAN MEKANIK PADA MORTAR 1 SEMEN : 5 PASIR

Abstract

This research is conducted to study the physical and mechanical characteristic of mortar. The mortar used has a cement-sand volume ratio of 1 : 5. Then, PVAc White Glue is added to this mixture with various percentages of 0. 3.0, 6.0, 9.0, 12.0, and 15.0 percent of cement weight. The water-cement ratio decreased as the increase of white glue PVAc percentage. The maximum and minimum water-cement ratio value of 1.12 and 0.717 were obtained respectively on the samples with 0% and 15.0% PVAc. The average decreasing of water-cement ratio was 0.081 on every 3.0% addition of PVAc. The addition of white glue resulted a production of air void and caused agglomeration on mortar and the mortar became elastic, thus it reduced the ease of compacting the mortar mixture. The characteristic of the mortar that was hard to be compacted and the compaction that was done manually resulted in the unevenness unstandardized level of compactness. The results indicated a varied of fluctuating value with low confidence level, thus the tendency and the influence of the PVAc addition were hard to be determined. From the test on the normal condition (N), the characteristics were hard to be determined were the decrease of unit weight with R2 = 0.203; the increase of compressive strength with R2 = 0.058; the increase of splitting tensile strength with R2 = 0.145; the decrease of bonding strength with R2 = 0.007, the decrease of surface abrasion resistance with R2 = 0.0001, and the decrease of 10-minutes water uptake with R2 = 0.185. While, the other characteristics of normal condition samples (N) with better confidence value were the decrease of flexural strength with R2 = 0.651; the modulus of elasticity with R2 = 0.61; and the decrease of 24-hours water uptake with R2 = 0.574. The mortar was difficult to be compacted, and a nonstandard compaction method were suspected to caused of unsatisfactory result of this research. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui sifat fisik dan mekanik mortar dengan perbandingan volume 1 semen : 5 pasir menggunakan bahan tambah lem putih PVAc sebanyak 0,0; 3,0; 6,0; 9,0; 12,0 dan 15,0 persen dari berat semen. Pengamatan sifat fisik meliputi faktor air semen, nilai sebar, berat isi dan serapan air. Pengamatan terhadap sifat mekanik meliputi kuat tekan, kuat tarik, kuat lentur, kuat lekat, ketahanan abrasi permukaan mortar dan modulus elastisitas Faktor air semen (f a s) semakin menurun seiring bertambahnya persentase lem putih PVAc, f a s terbesar 1,12 dan terkecil 0,717 masing-masing diperoleh dari kadar PVAc 0,0% dan 15,0%. Penurunan fas rata-rata sebesar 0,081 pada setiap penambahan lem putih PVAc 3,0%. Penambahan lem putih menimbulkan gelembung udara dan mortar menjadi menggumpal dan elastis, sehingga mengakibatkan mortar sulit dipadatkan. Pemadatan dilakukan secara manual sehingga tidak diperoleh tingkat kepadatan yang sempurna yang akan berpengaruh terhadap hasil pengujian-pengujian selanjutnya. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan nilai yang variatif dan fluktuatif dan tingkat kepercayaan yang rendah, sehingga sulit untuk ditetapkan pengaruh dan kecenderungannya. Dari hasil pengujian kondisi normal atau kering (N) yang sulit untuk ditetapkan pengaruhnya adalah berat isi berupa penurunan dengan R2= 0,203, kuat tekan berupa kenaikan dengan R2 = 0,058, kuat tarik berupa kenaikan dengan R2 = 0,145, kuat lekat berupa penurunan dengan R2 = 0,007, ketahan abrasi permukaan berupa penurunan dengan R2 = 0,0001dan serapan air 10 menit berupa penurunan dengan R2 = 0,185. Hasil pengujian kondisi normal atau kering (N) dengan tingkat kepercayaan lebih baik adalah kuat lentur berupa penurunan dengan R2 = 0,651, modulus elastisitas dengan R2 = 0,61 dan serapan air 24 jam berupa penurunan dengan R2 = 0,574. Sifat mortar yang sulit dipadatkan dan metode pemadatan yang tidak standard diduga menjadi penyebab diperolehnya hasil pengujian yang tidak memuaskan.
