Abstract

This study conducted a simulation of an automated fee charging of a passing car in the electronic road pricing area, utilizing the Global Positioning System (GPS) on smartphone as a Mobile Identification Unit, known as Unit Pengenal Mobil or UPM. The simulations in this study includes the designation of a road pricing location on Google Map, user interface design interface on smartphone, server and database server design. The test works well with the cost reduction shown in UPM when entering the paid area, and the fee charge announced through the short message services or SMS, and the transactions recorded in the data base server whenever the UPM is entering the road pricing area.
