Literature Review: Hubungan Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) dan Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) pada Lansia Hipertensi

Abstract: The prevalence of hypertension in the elderly is very high, reaching 60-80%. Hypertension in the elderly is associated with the incidence of peripheral artery disease (PAD). Ankle brachial index (ABI) is a sensitive and specific examination to detect PAD. Body mass index (BMI) is a risk factor for PAD. This literature review aims to review the relationship between BMI and ABI in hypertensive elderly. The writing of this literature review was carried out by summarizing articles related to topics which obtained through searches on databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed and the Cochrane Library. The total of 12 articles were used in this literature review. The research results in most of the articles showed that there was a relationship between BMI and ABI, and only 3 articles showed no relationship. The mechanism of the relationship between BMI and ABI is shown by obesity and underweight which are risk factors for the atherosclerosis process so that BMI affects the ABI value. As for which there is no relationship for its result, the mechanism is unclear and not detailed. Keywords: body mass index, ankle brachial index, elderly, hypertension. Abstrak: Prevalensi hipertensi pada lansia sangat tinggi mencapai 60-80%. Hipertensi pada lansia dihubungkan dengan kejadian penyakit arteri perifer (PAP). Ankle brachial index (ABI) merupakan pemeriksaan yang sensitif dan spesifik untuk mendeteksi PAP. Indeks massa tubuh  (IMT) merupakan salah satu faktor resiko PAP. Penulisan literature review ini bertujuan untuk mengulas hubungan antara IMT dengan ABI pada lansia hipertensi. Penulisan literature review ini dilakukan dengan merangkum artikel terkait topik yang didapatkan melalui pencarian pada database seperti Google scholar, PubMed dan Cochrane Library. Sebanyak 12 artikel digunakan dalam literature review ini. Hasil penelitian pada sebagian besar artikel menunjukan terdapat hubungan antara IMT dengan ABI, hanya 3 artikel yang menunjukan hasil tidak terdapat hubungan.  Mekanisme hubungan IMT dengan ABI ditunjukan oleh obesitas dan underweight yang merupakan faktor resiko dari proses aterosklerosis sehingga IMT mempengaruhi nilai ABI. Untuk hasil yang tidak didapatkan hubungan, mekanismenya belum jelas dan tidak dijelaskan secara rinci. Kata-kata kunci: indeks massa tubuh, ankle brachial index, lansia, hipertensi
