Abstract

The background of the research is the lack of student’s Math concept understanding and activeness in learning process. This study intend to determine the activity of student learning and understanding of mathematical concept students ability to apply active learning strategy LSQ. The type of the research is an experimental research. The research uses a technique of random sampling. The instruments used are the observation sheets of student’s activity and a test of Math concept understanding in the form of essay. Hypothesis testing using the U Mann- Witney test with the help of MINITAB software. Based on the hypothesis test result is found that P-value 0,0004 means smaller than α, so the hypothesis is accepted. Based on the analysis of observation sheet, it is found that the student’s learning activity increasing. It can be concluded that the student’s activity is increasing and the student math concept understanding applying the active learning strategy of LSQ type is better than the student Math concept understanding applying the conventional learning to students of grade VIII of MTsN Palangki, Sijunjung Regency.
