This article discusses about the Application of Social Function, Recreative in Gambir Farm Family at Kayu Gadang Village Tangah Nagari Koto Nan Tigo North Surantih, Sub-district of Sutera and Regency of South Pesisir. The function of family is one of job or duty that have to be done inside or outside of family. In gambir farmer’s family their life is more than 13 hours be outside of their home, or even some of them 24 hours being outside of their home and sometimes staying at gambir field. Thus, the purpose of this research is to describe the application of gambir farmer’s family function. The theory which is used in this research is structural function (Talcot Person). Research method that is used toward this reserach is Qualitative with descriptive type. The informant selection technique which is used in this research is purposive sampling, with the totall of informant are 15 informants. Kinds of data which is used in this research is primary data and secondary data. In addition, the data of this research is collected through observation and interview. Based on the result of interview, it is found that the application of gambir farmer’s family function before going and after coming back from gambir field (1) Parents socialization such as (a) communication, (b) value, (c) norm, (2) Recreative Function such as, giving entertainment to the children like buying electronic stuff.
