Abstract

To compare the possible hematological effects of the statins lovastatin and rosuvastatin with the flavon sophoretin, the present study was accomplished on rats. Thirty male rats allocated as five groups were used. The groups were: control, cholesterol, rosuvastatin, lovastatin and sophoretin groups. The animals of the control group were maintained on standard diet, while other groups were maintained on cholesterol diet 15mg/kg of diet and dosed orally and daily as follow: rosuvastatin 20 mg/kg body weight, lovastatin 4 mg, and sophoretin20 mg respectively. The study comprised some hematological parameters including red cells count, hemoglobin concentration, leukocytes count, hematocrit, differential leukocyte count, platelets count, red cells indices, and platelets indices. The results showed that cholesterol caused a significant increase in red cells count (RBC), hemoglobin (HGB), and hematocrit (HCT) with a significant decrease in total white cells count (WBC) and platelets count (PLT). Rosuvastatin caused a significant decrease in HGB, HCT and WBC while lovastatin caused a significant decrease in WBC, and PLT. For sophoretin, all the parameters were without significant differences as compared with control group at (P≤0.05). Considering other blood indices, they are more detailed in the results. Keywords: Sophoretin, Quercetin, Rosuvastatin, Lovastatin, Rats.
