PENGGUNAAN METODE LATIHAN UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN SISWA DALAM MEMBACA TEKS DESKRIPTIF DI KELAS VII SMP BAITURROSYID

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) is motivated by the low ability of students to read descriptive texts in English subject. The formulation of the problem in this study is how is the application of the training method in improving students' ability to read descriptive texts in English in class VIII SMP Baiturrosyid Padang. In order for this classroom action research to work well without obstacles that interfere with the smooth running of the research, the researcher compiled the stages that were passed in the classroom action research, namely: 1) Action planning/preparation, 2) Action implementation, 3) Observation, and 4) Reflection. The successful application of the exercise method to English subjects was known from the increase in students' ability to read descriptive texts from before the action, cycle I, and cycle II. Before the action, students' ability to read descriptive texts was classified as "underprivileged", with an average percentage of 55.2%, because it was in the range of 0% -54%. In cycle I it increased to 70.2%, classified as "Quite Able", because 70.2% was in the range of 55% -69%. Tests in cycle II increased again with an average percentage of 83.5%, classified as "Able", because 83.5% was in the range of 80% -100%. This means that students' ability to read descriptive texts has reached 75%. Thus it can be concluded that the application of the training method can improve students' ability to read descriptive texts in English for Grade VIII students of SMP Baiturrosyid Padang. ABSTRAKPenelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks deskriptif pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Perumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah Bagaimanakah penerapan metode latihan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks deskriptif dalam bahasa Inggris pada kelas VIII SMP Baiturrosyid Padang. Agar penelitian tindakan kelas ini berhasil dengan baik tanpa hambatan yang mengganggu kelancaran penelitian, peneliti menyusun tahapan-tahapan yang dilalui dalam penelitian tindakan kelas, yaitu: 1) Perencanaan/persiapan tindakan, 2) Pelaksanaan tindakan, 3) Observasi, dan 4) Refleksi. Berhasilnya penerapan metode latihan pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris, diketahui dari adanya peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks deskriptif dari sebelum tindakan, siklus I, dan siklus II. Pada sebelum tindakan kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks deskriptif tergolong “’Kurang Mampu”, dengan rata-rata persentase 55,2%, karena berada pada rentang 0%-54%. Pada siklus I meningkat menjadi 70,2%, tergolong “Cukup Mampu”, karena 70,2% berada pada rentang 55%-69%. Tes pada siklus II meningkat lagi dengan rata-rata persentase 83,5%, tergolong “Mampu”, karena 83,5% berada pada rentang 80%-100%. Artinya kemampuan Siswa dalam membaca teks deskriptif telah mencapai 75%. Dengan demikian dapat diambil kesimpulan dengan penerapan metode latihan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks deskriptif dalam Bahasa Inggris Siswa Kelas VIII SMP Baiturrosyid Padang.
