IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF PROCEDURE TEXTS BY USING COLLABORATIVE STRATEGIC READING

Abstract

This article describes  students’ reading comprehension on procedure texts at grade IX 1  of SMPN 2 Ampek Angkek which can be improved by using collaborative strategic reading and to gain the information the factors which cause the improvement. It is a kind of classroom action research. The findings showed that the mean of indicators of procedure texts ; on finding  general information, finding the specific, stated information, finding the specific, unstated information, finding the language feature, finding the social function, finding the generic structure, finding vocabulary/guessing words , in cycle 1 was 41,6. It increased become 65 in cycle 2.There were some factors influenced the changes of reading comprehension of procedure texts during the collaborative strategic reading such as; teaching materials, media, classroom management, teacher approach and teacher strategy. Teaching materials, classroom activities and classroom management influenced the changes significantly.Key words:  Improving, reading comprehension, procedure texts, collaborative strategic reading
