<![CDATA[ABSTRAK: Indonesia merupakan negara yang memiliki keragaman yang pluralistik. Varietas tersebut dapat dilihat dari dua perspektif yaitu perspektif horizontal dan perspektif vertikal. Perspektif horizontal meliputi keragaman agama, suku, bahasa daerah, kain, makanan, dan budaya. Sedangkan perspektif vertikal termasuk dalam ragam tingkat pendidikan, ekonomi, tempat tinggal, pekerjaan, dan ragam sosial budaya. Keanekaragaman bangsa kita membawa kita untuk memperhatikan pentingnya pendidikan multikultural sebagai antisipasi terhadap fenomena sosial negatif yang mungkin berasal dari keragaman ras dan suku, agama, dan keragaman nilai yang ada di masyarakat. Tujuan dari penulisan artikel ini untuk mengetahui lebih lanjut tentang bagaimana sebenarnya pendidikan multikultural bekerja dalam konteks pendidikan umum dan pendidikan agama Islam. Hasil dari penulisan artikel ini menunjukan keberadaan nilai-nilai multikultural masih jauh dari yang diharapkan baik dari perspektif pendidikan nasional maupun pendidikan agama Islam. Situasi ini membutuhkan penelitian lebih lanjut tentang implementasi pendidikan multikultural baik dalam sistem pendidikan nasional maupun dalam konteks pendidikan agama Islam. These varieties can be seen from two perspectives, namely a horizontal perspective and a vertical perspective. The horizontal perspective covers the diversity of religion, ethnicity, regional language, cloth, food, and culture. While the vertical perspective includes various levels of education, economy, place of residence, occupation, and socio-cultural diversity. The diversity of our nation brings us to pay attention to the importance of multicultural education in anticipation of negative social phenomena that may come from the diversity of races and ethnicities, religions, and the diversity of values that exist in society. The purpose of writing this article is to find out more about how multicultural education works in the context of general education and Islamic religious education. The results of writing this article show that the existence of multicultural values is still far from what is expected, both from the perspective of national education and Islamic religious education. This situation requires further research on the implementation of multicultural education both in the national education system and in the context of Islamic religious education.
