<![CDATA[Introduction: Achilles tendon is the thickest and strongest tendon in the humanbody. Like any other tendon, rupture may also occur. Statistically, the incidence of Achilles tendon rupture is 18 in 100.000 every year. There are stilldebates whether to choose conservative or operative treatment to treat thisinjury. Some clinicians prefer operative treatment due to the lower recurrence rate over conservative treatment. Newer studies suggest that conservative treatment followed with early functional rehabilitation showed comparable recurrence rate compared with operative treatment, without the risk of concurrent infection. Operative treatment is preferred for younger, more active andathlete patient population that needs faster recovery. Newer studies also suggest that minimal invasive surgery followed by early functional rehabilitationis superior and has lower recurrence and infection rate compared to conven-tional open method.]]>
