Menarche1is menstruation that1occurs for1the first1time in a woman. Menarche is a biological characteristic in a woman who is experiencing sexual maturity. It usually occurs at1the age1of 10-14 years old. Literacy about1menarche can influence the reproductive health behavior, one of which is mental readiness in facing menarche as well as their vulva hygiene behavior. The1purpose of1this study1was1to find1out the1description of1information literacy1about menarche among female students. The1design of1this research1is1a descriptive1observational method using1a cross-sectional1design. Respondent in the study were female1students who1had not1experienced menstruations, as1many as159 female students who were chosen using simple1random1sampling technique. Data1was taken1using a1questionnaire. The1results of1the study1showed that most respondents were 11 years old (47 respondents; 80%), and most of the subjects come from the Madurese tribe (53 respondents; 90%). Whereas about the sources of information regarding menarche, they got mostly from friends as many as 36 respondents (66%). The results about description of literacy about menarche, it was obtained that 43 respondents (74%) had less literacy, 9 respondents (16%) had sufficient menarche literacy and 6 respondents (10%) have high menarche literacy. There1is a1need to1increase the1information literacy1about menarche1in female students, that can be done by doing a health education, establishing peer counseling and others. With the increase in literacy, female students will be mentally better prepared to face menarche as well as improving reproductive health behavior, especially related to vulva hygiene.
