The aims of this research are: (1) Describing and explaining the learning of folklore by using STAD method; (2) improving studentsâ ability in appreciation of folklore by using STAD method; (3) describing the difficulties that faced in improving students appreciation of folklore by using STAD method of students VII F SMP Negeri 11 Madiun.This subject of the research is students of class VII F SMP Negeri 11 Madiun. The object of the research is the using of STAD method in âBahasa dan Sastra Indonesiaâ learning process as the effort to improve studentsâ ability appreciation of folklore. Data resource are: (1) informant;  (2)  place  and  event;  (3)  documents.     Data  collecting  technique  are:  (1) observation; (2) deep interview; (3) questionnaire; (4) test. Data validity used is triangulation technique consist of: (1) data triangulation; (2) method triangulation; (3) informant review. Data analysis is by using comparative descriptive technique and critics analysis technique.The result of the research shows that using Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) can improve the ability in appreciation of folklore of students class VII F SMP Negeri 11 Madiun. It can be seen from the result of pretest and posttest that conducted during three cycles.   At the test before action the number of students getting score more than KKM (70, 00) are 16 students (40, 00%) with average score is 65, 55. At first cycle the number of students getting more than KKM improves be 21 students (52, 50%). The improvement equal 12, 50%. While class average score 65, 57 has not reached KKM. At second cycle, the improvement is 27 students equal 67, 50% has reached KKM or improvement 15% from first cycle, with the average class score 68,925. This improvement has not reached KKM 70, 00 and class minimum score has not reached 75%. So the process is continued in to third cycle. After test in third cycle the number students can reached KKM are 35 students (87, 50%) with the class average score is 73,525. At third cycle class minimum score has been more than 75% and minimum ability score is 70.00. It can be conclude that the learning by using STAD method can improve quality and result learning.
