The background of the research is aimed at preserving the kaba as a Minangkabau cultural heritage that is almost extinct even though it contains many moral values. In addition, the use of directive speech acts is inseparable from the dialogue of the characters in the kaba. This article aims to describe the function of directive speech acts in the kaba Rambun Pamenan by Sutan Mangkudun. This research uses a descriptive method with qualitative research design. The data source used is the Kaba Rambun Pamenan. The conversations of the Kaba Rambun Pamenan figures served as the study's data. Data was collected by the note-taking method, namely by reading as a whole and grouping based on research objectives. Data analysis was done by the triangulation method. The data were analyzed by: (1) identifying the data based on the directive speech act function, (2) classifying the data based on the directive speech act function, (3) analyzing the data according to the research objectives, (4) formulating research findings and discussion, (5) formulating conclusion. Based on the discussion, there are five functions of directive speech acts, namely, ordering, pleading, suggesting, demanding, and challenging.
