ABSTRACT One of the natural resources utilization can be conducted from mining sector, both in a legal and an illegal. The mining which common conducted by the society is Non Authorization Gold Mining. Generally, people conduct the PETI activity in a river, that will bring negative impacts as the water pollution. The objective of this study was to know the physics and chemistry of water quality as a result of PETI in the Mandor River. The water quality parameters such as pH, Temperature, DO( Disolved Oxygen) ,COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand, TSS (Total Suspended Solid) and Mercury. The other parameter that was measured as the water debit by using current meter, and brightness of the water which was estimated by using secci disk. The results showed that based on the high values of mercury, TSS and COD of Mandor River does not meet PP 82 Tahun 2001 of government. While the pH of the river water from up stream to down stream is still in normal condition. The results showed There was also the relation among total suspended solid and brightness of the water. Key words : Non Authorization Gold Mining, water quality. ABSTRAK Pemanfaatan sumberdaya alam salah satunya dapat dilakukan melalui sektor pertambangan, baik secara legal maupun ilegal. Bentuk penambangan yang umum dilakukan masyarakat adalah Penambangan Emas Tanpa Izin (PETI). Umumnya, masyarakat melakukan kegiatan PETI di sungai, sehingga dapat menimbulkan dampak negatif diantaranya adalah pencemaran air. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas fisika dan kimia air akibat penambangan emas liar atau tanpa izin pada Daerah Aliran Sungai Mandor. Pengukuran kualitas air seperti pH, temperatur, oksigen terlarut (DO: Disolved Oxygen), COD ( Chemical Oxygen Demand ), Padatan Tersuspensi ( Total Suspended Solid / TSS ) dan Merkuri. Data pendukung lainnya yang diukur adalah debit air dan kecerahan air dimana kecepatan arus diukur dengan current meter dan kecerahan menggunakan secci disk. Hasil Pengamatan menunjukan bahwa berdasarkan tingginya kandungan merkuri, TSS dan COD air Sungai Mandor tidak memenuhi PP 82 Tahun 2001 yang ditetapkan pemerintah. Sedangkan pH air sungai Mandor dari hulu sampai hilir masih dalam keadaan normal. Hasil menunjukan pula adanya keterkaitan parameter antara padatan tersuspensi dan kecerahan air.
