Abstract

Kata kunci: hemodialisa, symptom burden, kualitas tidur ABSTRACTSleep plays an important role in humans’ life; good quality of sleep may help maintaining mental and physical health. Patients undergoing hemodialysis has been known to be experiencing various symptoms including impaired sleep quality. The aim of this study is to find the association between symptoms in patients undergoing hemodialysis and their quality of sleep. A survey of symptoms and sleep quality was conducted in 202 patients undergoing hemodialysis from two dialysis units in Jakarta, Indonesia. Symptom burden was assessed using Dialysis Symptom Index (DSI) and sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The result shows 90% of the subjects scored five or more in the sleep quality survey (n = 182). The average score of the global sleep score was 8,44. The average number of present symptoms in this study was 13 symptoms, with average symptoms burden of 36 per respondent. Pearson correlation analysis reveals symptom burden has positively moderate association with sleep quality 0,46 and p-value of 0,01, The higher the symptom burden the worse the sleep quality. Keywords: hemodialysis, symptom burden, quality of sleep
