The background of this research is the weak ability to think critically mathematically. The research objective is to describe mathematical critical thinking that is taught with the Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach better than conventional learning. This study used a quantitative approach in the form of an experimental method with the Posttest Only Control Group Design research design. Sampling with Simple Random Sampling. The data obtained from the test in the form of an essay totaling 4 questions. The experimental class obtained an average score of 9.7333 then the control class, which was 7.6207. In testing normality and homogeneity of data with normal distribution and homogeneous variance, therefore the Independent Sample T-Test is used in hypothesis testing. From testing the hypothesis obtained tcount > ttable or 3.164 > 1.672 thus H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. The conclusion was drawn that mathematical critical thinking skills taught using the Contextual Teaching and Learning approach were better than conventional learning for class VIII students of SMP Ni 32 Sarolangun in the 2022/2023 academic year
