Abstract

Abstract The Muslim Travel Ban, enacted through Executive Order 13769 in 2017, marked a controversial shift in U.S. foreign policy by restricting entry from several predominantly Muslim countries. This study aims to explore the broader foreign policy implications of the ban, focusing on its effects on diplomatic relations, key legal and human rights challenges, and its impact on U.S. national security and international reputation. Utilizing qualitative research methods and secondary data, including court cases, human rights reports, and expert analyses, the research uncovers significant findings. The ban strained diplomatic relations with the affected countries, fostering distrust and disrupting bilateral cooperation. It raised critical legal and human rights issues, highlighting constitutional challenges and violations of non-discrimination principles. Additionally, the ban's impact on national security is debated, with arguments that it may have exacerbated security threats by fostering anti-American sentiment. The rescission of the ban under the Biden administration has been positively received, signaling a recommitment to inclusivity and human rights. The study concludes that the Muslim Travel Ban had complex and far-reaching consequences for U.S. foreign policy, necessitating ongoing efforts to repair diplomatic ties and uphold human rights standards.
