In essence, there is no separation between the ongoing process of educational activities and the institutions that cover them, including Islamic education activities. In order to understand where the process of scientific transformation takes place, this article will examine institutions run by people. By using a qualitative approach based on literature study. Books and journal articles are the sources of data in this study, while the author's data analysis uses content analysis, where the researcher examines and interprets the findings from several references. This study at least shows that in the course of the history of Islamic education, non-governmental institutions have contributed to the development of Islamic scholarship. There are four educational institutions that are managed by individuals or the community, including literary communities, homes, bookstores, and open spaces.
