AbstractThe focus of the research is the design and implementation of inculcating the character values ofresponsibility and independence in thematic learning during the pandemic in class V of Sungai RayaKepulauan Elementary School. The purpose of the study was to analyze the design andimplementation of the inculcation of the character values of responsibility and independence in fifthgrade students of Sungai Raya Kepulauan Elementary School. This research uses descriptivequalitative research method. The research subjects were teachers and students of class V ElementarySchool. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, interviews, observation and documentation.The data analysis used is qualitative analysis. The research data shows that the inculcation of thecharacter values of responsibility and independence in fifth grade elementary school students inSungai Raya Islands has been carried out through thematic learning, by observing student activitieswhen doing evaluations at the end of learning. This study recommends that to instill character valuescan be done at all grade levels and carried out since students come to school. The teacher's barriers toinstilling the character values of responsibility and independence are the impact of the pandemicwhich requires students to study from home and restrictions on the time and number of students in oneclass.Keywords: Character Value, Independence, Responsibility
