<![CDATA[The role of local governments has become greater to manage their government affairs including in terms of services, law enforcement, security, education, technological and cultural advances. With decentralization where the government gives authority, flexibility to each region to develop the progress of the region. To achieve regional autonomy, the involvement and role of the community in growing and advancing the region is also very important. This research seeks to explain the role of government and community participation in advancing Sorong Regency. The method in this research uses Qualitative Methods. Based on this research, it can be concluded that the results of the study show that the government and the people of Sorong Regency have an important role in the steps to advance Sorong Regency, where the Sorong Regency government has made a long-term development plan for 2025-2045 which the plan will be a guideline in implementing development in the region. Then the role of the community in advancing Sorong Regency can be seen through the community's activeness in participating in maintaining cultural heritage, the abundant natural diversity of Sorong Regency, cultural education, and contributing to technological innovation for various activities that support regional progress.]]>
