Islamic book learning is the core of education in pesantren, including Hasan Jufri Islamic Boarding School. However, this learning process faces various problems that hinder the effectiveness and achievement of the ability to read Islamic books for Muslim students. This study aims to identify the problems faced in the learning of Islamic books at Pondok Pesantren Hasan Jufri, including aspects of teaching methods, class division, the role of ustadz, and the motivation of Muslim students. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and focus group discussions (FGDs). The results showed that the main problems include the class placement of Muslim students not based on qualifications, the implementation of the sorogan method that is not optimal, the limited number of ustadz mukim, and the low interest and motivation of Muslim students to learn. In addition, time and learning of Islamic textbooks remain a significant challenge. This study recommends the development of more varied learning methods, the use of technology, grouping classes based on test qualifications, and increasing the role of ustadz in supporting the teaching and learning process. The findings are expected to be a reference to improve the effectiveness of learning Islamic books and maintain the relevance of education in Pondok Pesantren Hasan Jufri.
