<![CDATA[This paper tries to understand the characteristics and methodology of one of the archipelago mufassir and tafsi, namely the Marah Labid tafsir by Syaikh Nawawi Al-Bantani. Shaykh Nawawi Al-Bantani is a great scholar who has expertise in various fields of religious knowledge such as tafsir, hadith, fiqh, Sufism and so on. Syaik Nawawi is a native Indonesian cleric who was born in Banten, but spent most of his life in Mecca Al-mukaromah studying science and teaching it. In Indonesia, we know many of his students who became pillars of Islamic progress, such as KH. Hasyim Asy'ari, KH. Ahmad Dahlan and so on. Marah Labid is an archipelago commentary written by Shaykh Nawawi Al-Bantani who uses Arabic as the language of instruction, has a concise and clear interpretation and uses explanations from hadith, the history of friends and tabi'in as well as the opinions of previous commentators so that this commentary is still has become a reference in the science of interpretation both in Indonesia and in the Middle East. The interpretation method used by Shaikh Nawawi Al-Bantani is the tahlili method which attempts to explain a verse from all its aspects.
