<![CDATA[This study aims to determine the description of the mathematical communication ability of students in solving a contextual problem . This type of research is descriptive research using a qualitative approach. The subject of this research are students of class XII. Retrieval of the subject is performed by providing a test of the initial ability on to students then from the results of the test selected 4 subjects based on existing categories. The instrument used are written mathematical communication ability test and interview guidelines. The results showed the ability of written communication of research subject are writing information contained in the questions and define the main objectives to be achieved. But the subject are weak in the ability meuliskan mathematical operations in accordance with the purpose of questions, use of pictures or scientific notation in solving a problem, presenting a representation of the entire to the concept that is used and write a conclusion answer into daily language. The results of this study are expected to add insight about the mathematical communication ability, especially in working on contextual so that in the process of learning students are able to improve the ability to communicate in the language of mathematics]]>
