The "Kurikulum Merdeka" (Independent Curriculum) has become the primary focus in the efforts to improve the education system in Indonesia. In the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), the implementation of the "Kurikulum Merdeka" at SMP Negeri 1 Prambanan presents its own challenges and opportunities. This paper reviews the process of implementing the "Kurikulum Merdeka" in teaching PAI at SMP Negeri 1 Prambanan. The research method employed is a qualitative case study approach. The findings indicate that the implementation of the "Kurikulum Merdeka" has brought significant changes in the approach to teaching PAI, including increased student interactivity, the use of more varied learning resources, and enhanced understanding of Islamic concepts in everyday life contexts. However, there are challenges encountered in the implementation process, such as teacher readiness to adapt to curriculum changes and the availability of appropriate learning resources. The implications of this research point towards the necessity of guidance and training for PAI teachers to effectively implement the "Kurikulum Merdeka", as well as the importance of improving the availability of learning resources relevant to the local context.
