Abstract

This research arms at knowing motivation and achievement in Mathematics learning using Problem Solving approach in grade VII A SMP Taman Dewasa Ibu Pawiyatan Yogyakarta in the academic year of 2012/2013. The subject of the research is eightteen students. It is conducted in two cycles. Each cycles consist of : planning, action, observation, reflection. The technique or the collection is through test, interview, questionnaire, documentation and field notes . The researcher analyze the data to be done by calculating the questionnaire and to test every aspect of learning achievement is done by calculating the average value and counting the percentage of tests that meet the KKM. Based on the results of the research show that the application of Problem Solving approaches to increase motivation and achievement of students learning Mathematics. It is shown by the average percentage increase in motivation to study pre action by 40% increased by 66,53% in cycles two and cycles two increased to 78,88%, the guidelines include in the high category. Also demonstrated an increase in the average test result of students pre action for 56,05 and average test result of students in cycles one increased 8,95 point to 65 and average test result of students in cycles two average test result of students in cycles two increased 6,38 point to 71,38.
