Abstract

  Background: Nutrition education is one of the efforts to improve the nutritional status of children under five. Through nutrition counseling, parents gain knowledge about balanced nutrition and handling nutrition problems. Prupose: To determine the effectiveness of nutrition education on balanced feeding patterns in toddlers 24-59 months in Limboto Health Center. Method: Research using quantitative with quasi experiment design type pretest-posttest control group design. The sample amounted to 30 mothers who had underweight toddlers, selected through purposive sampling technique, 15 people as a treatment group and 15 control groups. Data were analyzed using Independent Sample T-Test test. Results: There was an increase in balanced feeding patterns in the treatment group after being given nutrition education. The average pretest was 48.53 increased to 73.73 in the posttest, with an average difference of 25.20. This indicates a change after education is carried out. Conclusion: Nutrition education is effective on balanced feeding patterns in toddlers 24-59 months in Limboto Health Center, with a significance value (p-value) of 0.000 (Sig. (2-tailed) <0.05), which indicates that the average difference between the two groups. Suggestions, nutrition education needs to be continued regularly to maintain and improve a balanced diet in toddlers. Suggestions: Parents of toddlers are expected to be more active in participating in nutrition education provided by health workers to increase understanding of the importance of balanced feeding.
