Abstract

Introduction: Parenting style is a consistent approach used by parents to educate, guide, and discipline children, which can influence children's moral development. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parenting style and the moral development of preschool-aged children. Methods: A correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 32 parents of preschool children aged 4–6 years, selected through purposive sampling from a population of 35 respondents. Data on parenting styles and children's moral development were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The majority of parents applied a democratic parenting style (59.4%), while most children demonstrated good moral development (53.2%). Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between parenting style and children's moral development (p = 0.011; p < 0.05). Children raised with democratic parenting tended to exhibit better moral development compared to those raised with other parenting styles. Conclusions: Parenting style plays an important role in shaping the moral development of preschool-aged children. Democratic parenting, characterized by warmth, responsiveness, and appropriate boundaries, appears to support positive moral growth, including empathy, moral understanding, and prosocial behavior. The findings emphasize the need to promote supportive parenting practices and encourage future research to develop educational and intervention programs aimed at enhancing children's moral development through effective parenting approaches.
