Anxiety is a common feeling experienced by adolescents, especially those living in orphanages. According to the Indonesia-National Adolescent Mental Health Survey (2022), 3.7% of adolescents aged 10-17 years suffer from anxiety disorders, often exhibiting behaviors such as sadness, gloominess, and confusion about the future, leading to anxiety manifested as a lack of self-confidence. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the butterfly hug therapy on the anxiety levels of adolescents at the Bundo Saiyo Orphanage in Padang City. This study is a quasi-experiment with a nonequivalent (pretest and posttest) control group design. The sampling technique used was total sampling, with 30 respondents divided into an experimental group of 15 individuals and a control group of 15 individuals, using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) as the instrument. Data processing techniques included editing, coding, data entry, tabulating, and cleaning, with data analysis conducted in both univariate and bivariate forms. The results of the paired sample t-test in the experimental group showed a p-value / sig. (2-tailed) of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of butterfly hug therapy on the anxiety levels of adolescents at the Bundo Saiyo Orphanage. In the control group, which did not receive the butterfly hug therapy intervention, the p-value was 0.111 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant difference between the pretest and posttest in the control group. In conclusion, this study found that the butterfly hug therapy had a significant effect on reducing anxiety levels among adolescents at the Bundo Saiyo Orphanage in Padang City.It is hoped that this therapy can be implemented and used as an intervention to reduce anxiety in adolescents.
