Language is a primary means of communication that has historical, social and cultural value. One of the main aspects of language study is phonology, which discusses sound variation in language. The phenomenon of obah owahing swara in Javanese, which includes sound changes such as addition, subtraction, and shifting, is interesting to study, especially in the context of oral communication. This study aims to analyse the sound variation in the ‘Rasa’ video uploaded by the Gunungkidul Culture YouTube Channel. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study found three main categories of sound variation, namely penambahing swara, panyudaning swara, and gesehing swara, as well as free variation that shows flexibility in word pronunciation. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the preservation of the Javanese language and enrich the study of phonology in social and cultural contexts.
