Abstract

The rapid advancement of time and media is an inevitable part of life. This progress strongly influences transaction methods, such as electronic money, which offers significant benefits to society in facilitating transactions. However, its use in Islamic law is surrounded by controversy, with debates about whether it is permissible or not. This review aims to explore the legitimacy of electronic money based on various theoretical foundations and perspectives of fiqh. The halal status of using electronic money is still questioned by the public due to its intangible form, which consists only of numbers and digital codes embedded in a chip or server. The research conducted for this study is descriptive in nature. The data collection technique used is library research, gathering documentation from articles, journals, or books that serve as sources to examine the issues addressed in this article, such as the operational mechanisms of e-money and the benefits of e-money.
