Bagaimana Etika Bicara Melayu Membentuk Gaya Komunikasi Pemelajar Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing di Riau?

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis etika bicara dalam budaya Melayu dan relevansinya bagi pemelajar Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing (BIPA) di Riau. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran dengan desain eksplanatori sekuensial. Tahap kualitatif dilakukan terlebih dahulu untuk mengungkap etika berbicara dalam perspektif budaya Melayu, dilanjutkan dengan tahap kuantitatif untuk mengukur pemahaman pemelajar BIPA. Penelitian dilakukan di Universitas Islam Riau dengan studi kasus terhadap pemelajar BIPA dari Thailand, Nigeria, dan Kamboja. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa etika berbicara perspektif budaya Melayu, meliputi: 1) berbicara untuk beramah-tamah dan mendapat berkah, 2) berlembut lidah untuk menegakkan tuah, 3) bermulut manis bercakap lemak, 4) berbicara ingat amanah, 5) berkata lurus bercakap benar, 6) larangan menyergah saat bersedekah, 7) jangan bicara sembarangan dalam gelanggang, dan 8) salah nasihat kepala berulat. Penelitian ini juga mengusulkan strategi pengajaran BIPA berbasis diagnostik budaya untuk meningkatkan kompetensi pragmatik pemelajar. Implikasi penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya pendekatan multikultural dalam pengajaran bahasa. How Do Malay Speech Etiquettes Shape the Communication Style of Indonesian Language Learners for Foreign Speakers in Riau?This study aims to analyze the etiquette of speaking in Malay culture and its relevance for Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) learners in Riau. This study uses a mixed method with a sequential explanatory design. The qualitative stage was carried out first to reveal the etiquette of speaking in a Malay cultural perspective, followed by a quantitative stage to measure the understanding of BIPA learners. The study was conducted at the Islamic University of Riau with case studies of BIPA learners from Thailand, Nigeria, and Cambodia. The results of the study indicate that the etiquette of speaking in a Malay cultural perspective includes: 1) speaking to be friendly and get blessings, 2) being soft-tongued to uphold good fortune, 3) being sweet-spoken to speak well, 4) speaking remembering the mandate, 5) speaking straight to speak correctly, 6) prohibition of attacking when giving alms, 7) do not speak carelessly in the arena, and 8) wrong advice will have a caterpillar head. This study also proposes a BIPA teaching strategy based on cultural diagnostics to improve learners' pragmatic competence. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of a multicultural approach in language teaching.
