Abstract: Abstract. This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of the application or use of smart wheel learning media to improve the early reading skills of grade 1 students of SD Negeri 11 Koto Baru. This type of research uses quantitative with experimental research, The experimental design used in this study is a form of True Experimental Design research method type pre-test, post-test control group design. The population in this study were all students of SD Negeri 11 Koto Baru totaling 216 students, The sample in this study was grade I students of SD Negeri 11 Koto Baru totaling 28 students, 14 class I A and 14 class I B students, Data collection techniques for understanding the concept of early reading students using descriptive analysis. The prerequisite test of normality test, humogenicity test, and hypothesis test using independent sample t tests. The results of the conclusion of the independent sample t tests showed that the significance level was 0.002 <0.05, so the results can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, it shows that there is an influence of the use of smart wheel media on students' initial reading ability in the Indonesian language learning subject, abacus learning media on students' learning outcomes in the subject.
