Abstract

This paper examines the myths in the fishing tradition of the fishing community in South Bolaang Mongondow. This type of research is qualitative with a sociological and anthropological approach that seeks to explain myths in the sea to the people of Bakida Village, Helumo District. The technique used in this research is observation, interview and documentation. The results showed that as fishermen, the seafaring community of Bakida Village, Helumo sub-district view the myths when going to sea as a tool to maintain their sense of superiority to the outside community, triggering their enthusiasm to prove to the outside world their existence in the marine world. The existence of the myth is constantly maintained as an obligation that should not be overstepped. The impact of these myths occurs in socio-cultural life, slowly fading because fishermen think that these myths have existed since time immemorial before they were in that place, in economic life the existence of myths is also not really felt by the community because they consider these myths as unwritten rules. whether they like it or not, they have to follow.
