Analisis Kualitas Briket Biomassa Tempurung Kelapa Menggunakan Variasi Perekat

Abstract

Biomass energy, especially in the form of briquettes, represents a promising alternative to reduce reliance on fossil fuels while fostering the transition toward a sustainable energy system. This research aimed to assess and compare the quality of coconut shell briquettes prepared with three different binders, namely sago starch, tapioca starch, and molasses, at concentrations of 10% and 20%, and to identify the formulation that best complies with SNI standards. The evaluation covered parameters such as moisture content, ash content, volatile matter, and burning rate. The findings revealed that briquettes containing 10% sago starch binder had the lowest moisture content (6.65%), whereas those with 20% tapioca starch binder produced the lowest ash and volatile matter values (5.25% and 14.88%). In contrast, the use of molasses resulted in lower performance in most quality aspects. Overall, briquettes made with 10% sago starch and 20% tapioca starch exhibited superior quality and met the SNI requirements. The outcomes of this study provide valuable insights into the development of efficient, environmentally friendly biomass briquette technology that supports sustainable energy practices. Abstrak: Energi biomassa, khususnya dalam bentuk briket, merupakan alternatif yang menjanjikan untuk mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap bahan bakar fosil sekaligus mendorong transisi menuju sistem energi yang berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai dan membandingkan kualitas briket tempurung kelapa yang dibuat dengan tiga jenis perekat berbeda, yaitu tepung sagu, tepung tapioka, dan molase, masing-masing pada konsentrasi 10% dan 20%, serta menentukan formulasi yang paling sesuai dengan standar SNI. Evaluasi dilakukan terhadap beberapa parameter, meliputi kadar air, kadar abu, zat mudah menguap, dan laju pembakaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa briket dengan perekat tepung sagu 10% memiliki kadar air terendah (6,65%), sedangkan perekat tepung tapioka 20% menghasilkan kadar abu dan zat mudah menguap terendah (5,25% dan 14,88%). Sebaliknya, penggunaan molase menunjukkan performa yang lebih rendah pada sebagian besar parameter kualitas. Secara keseluruhan, briket dengan perekat tepung sagu 10% dan tepung tapioka 20% memiliki mutu terbaik dan memenuhi persyaratan SNI. Temuan ini memberikan kontribusi penting dalam pengembangan teknologi briket biomassa yang lebih efisien dan ramah lingkungan serta mendukung praktik energi berkelanjutan.
