Abstract

Abstract: Research on animal diversity and behavior plays an important role in understanding ecological interactions and their potential applications in human life. This article examines three species cats (Felis catus), grasshoppers (Caelifera), and ants (Formicidae) each of which holds a unique role in ecosystems and human interaction. Cats, as domesticated animals, serve not only as companions but also contribute ecologically by controlling small animal populations. Grasshoppers are herbivorous insects that play a significant role in food chains and can serve as indicators of ecosystem health, while also being known as agricultural pests. Meanwhile, ants are characterized by complex social systems and contribute to soil balance and nutrient distribution. By comparing the biological characteristics, behaviors, and ecological interactions of these three animals, this study aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the roles of fauna in ecosystems and their implications for conservation and sustainable utilization. Keywords: cats, grasshoppers, ants, ecology, biodiversity Abstrak: Penelitian mengenai keanekaragaman dan perilaku hewan memiliki peran penting dalam memahami hubungan ekologi serta potensi aplikasinya dalam kehidupan manusia. Artikel ini mengkaji tiga jenis hewan, yaitu kucing (Felis catus), belalang (Caelifera), dan semut (Formicidae), yang masing-masing memiliki peranan unik dalam ekosistem maupun interaksi dengan manusia. Kucing, sebagai hewan domestik, tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai hewan peliharaan tetapi juga memiliki peran ekologis dalam mengendalikan populasi hewan kecil. Belalang merupakan serangga herbivora yang berperan signifikan dalam rantai makanan, sekaligus menjadi indikator kesehatan ekosistem, namun juga dapat menjadi hama pertanian. Sementara itu, semut dikenal dengan sistem sosial yang kompleks serta kontribusinya dalam menjaga keseimbangan tanah dan mendistribusikan nutrien. Dengan membandingkan karakteristik biologis, perilaku, dan interaksi ekologis ketiga hewan tersebut, penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pemahaman yang lebih komprehensif tentang peran fauna dalam ekosistem dan implikasinya bagi konservasi serta pemanfaatan berkelanjutan. Kata kunci: kucing, belalang, semut, ekologi, keanekaragaman hayati
