Inseminasi Buatan (IB) merupakan salah satu teknologi reproduksi buatan yang diperkenalkan oleh pemerintah untuk meningkatkan kualitas genetik dan produktivitas ternak, khususnya sapi potong. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji persepsi peternak terhadap teknologi IB di Kecamatan Lubuk Batu Jaya, Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu, Provinsi Riau. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan metode survei terhadap 40 peternak sapi potong yang telah mengadopsi teknologi IB. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan kuesioner. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persepsi peternak secara umum berada dalam kategori baik, dengan total skor persepsi sebesar 4.170. Peternak menilai teknologi IB memberikan berbagai manfaat, seperti peningkatan kualitas dan kuantitas ternak, efisiensi biaya, serta penghematan waktu dan tenaga. Meskipun demikian, peternak juga menghadapi kendala seperti kesulitan dalam mendeteksi birahi dan tingkat keberhasilan kebuntingan yang masih rendah. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan upaya peningkatan kapasitas melalui pelatihan dan penyuluhan, serta peningkatan akses terhadap inseminator terlatih untuk mendukung keberhasilan adopsi teknologi IB. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi dasar pengambilan kebijakan dalam pengembangan sektor peternakan sapi potong secara berkelanjutan. Artificial Insemination (AI) is a reproductive technology introduced by the government to improve the genetic quality and productivity of livestock, particularly beef cattle. This study aims to examine the perceptions of beef cattle farmers toward AI technology in Lubuk Batu Jaya District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province. A descriptive quantitative approach was used, employing a survey method involving 40 beef cattle farmers who had adopted AI technology. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The results indicate that farmers' overall perception of AI is categorized as positive, with a total perception score of 4,170. Farmers recognized the benefits of AI, including improved livestock quality and quantity, cost efficiency, and savings in time and labor. However, they also encountered challenges such as difficulties in estrus detection and relatively low conception rates. Therefore, efforts are needed to enhance farmers’ capacity through training and extension services, as well as improve access to skilled inseminators to support the successful adoption of AI. The findings are expected to serve as a basis for policymaking in the sustainable development of the beef cattle sector.
