A story that originates in the society and has evolved since ancient times is called folklore. Every country with a diverse culture that encompasses ethical ideals, cultural norms, and moral standards within the community has folklore. Malin Kundang is one of the folktales that has been passed down through the ages. The purpose of this study is to characterize the moral principles found in Malin Kundang folklore. In this study, a descriptive method using a qualitative approach was employed. In this study, note-taking and reading strategies were employed as data collection methods. Reading the short story in its whole serves as the analytical method in this study. The folktale "Malin Kundang" serves as the study's data source. The study's findings indicate that folklore contains moral values such as people's morality toward themselves, their morality toward other people, their morality toward their gods, and their morality toward one another in the social and environmental domains.
