The ethical crisis in modern education has become a significant phenomenon in Muslim societies facing the pressures of globalization, digitalization, and materialistic orientation. In the context of Islamic education in Indonesia, particularly in Muhammadiyah institutions, there is a challenge to maintain the spiritual and material balance of the concept of tawazun, which has long been the foundation of classical educational values. This study aims to examine the forms of ethical crises that have emerged, their causes, and the urgency of reintegrating tawazun values into the modern Islamic education system. The research method used a literature review of journals and articles published between 2020 and 2024, as well as an analysis of curriculum documents and educational policies in modern Islamic institutions. The results of the study indicate that the dominance of academic and material orientations (achievement, accreditation, facilities) has shifted the focus away from spiritual character formation; this has led to a decline in students' moral quality, an increase in pragmatic behavior, and a weakening of their sense of social and religious responsibility. The discussion suggests that reintegrating tawazun through curriculum reconstruction, strengthening character and moral education, and implementing a holistic approach to Imtaq Iptek is crucial. This article emphasizes that modern Islamic education must return to the essence of spiritual-material balance in order to be able to produce progressive people who are not only intelligent but also have noble morals.
