Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menguak makna simbolik dalam karya lukis "All Praise Be To God" karya Fadjar Djunaedi yang dikenal mengangkat tumpeng nasi kuning sebagai simbol rasa syukur (slametan) dalam konteks budaya Jawa, sekaligus merefleksikan hubungan vertikal manusia dengan Tuhan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif-analitis dan kerangka Semiotika Visual Charles Sanders Peirce (Representamen, Objek, Interpretant), kajian berfokus pada struktur tanda visual, makna, dan ide penciptaan. Data primer adalah unsur visual lukisan (komposisi, warna, medium), sementara data sekunder mencakup filosofi tumpeng. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa lukisan ini cerdas memadukan figur pensil dengan cat akrilik tumpeng yang cerah. Tumpeng berfungsi sebagai indeks yang merujuk pada ritual Slametan, tradisi memohon keselamatan dan berbagi kebahagiaan. Ekspresi dan gestur tokoh perempuan merupakan Sinsign rasa syukur. Lebih mendalam, alas tumpeng dan seutas mi yang membentuk layang-layang diinterpretasikan sebagai simbol"melayangkan" doa, harapan, dan rasa syukur kepada Yang Maha Kuasa, sesuai judul lukisan. Interpretasi lukisan ini adalah penggambaran hubungan vertikal antara manusia dengan Tuhan dalam bentuk harapan dan syukur yang dihaturkan melalui objek tumpeng sebagai representasi kebudayaan Jawa. This research aims to reveal the symbolic meaning in the painting "All Praise Be To God" by Fadjar Djunaedi, known for featuring the Tumpeng Nasi Kuning as a symbol of gratitude (slametan) in Javanese culture, while also reflecting the vertical relationship between humans and God. Using a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach and Charles Sanders Peirce’s Visual Semiotics framework (Representamen, Object, Interpretant), the study focuses on the structure of visual signs, meaning, and the artist’s creative ideas. Primary data consists of the painting's visual elements (composition, color, medium), while secondary data covers the philosophy of Tumpeng. The analysis results show that the painting cleverly merges a pencil-drawn figure with the bright acrylic Tumpeng. The Tumpeng functions as an Index referring to the Slametan ritual—a tradition of seeking safety and sharing happiness. The female figure’s expression and gesture are a Sinsign of gratitude. Furthermore, the base of the Tumpeng and a dangling noodle strand form a kite shape, interpreted as a Symbol of "airing" or "sending up" prayers, hopes, and gratitude to the Almighty, consistent with the title. The painting’s Interpretant is the depiction of the vertical relationship between humanity and God, where hopes and gratitude are offered through the Tumpeng object as a representation of Javanese culture.
