<![CDATA[Pendahuluan: Kandidiasis oral adalah infeksi oportunistik paling umum yang mempengaruhi mukosa mulut. Beberapa faktor predisposisi yang dapat menyebabkan kandidiasis oral yaitu disfungsi saliva, oral hygiene yang buruk, kebersihan gigi tiruan yang buruk, terapi kortikosteroid topikal dan penyakit HIV/AIDS. Alat ortodonti lepasan adalah alat yang digunakan untuk koreksi maloklusi gigi yang bertujuan memperbaiki fungsi mengunyah, menelan, bernafas dan estetika wajah. Pemakaian alat ortodonti lepasan tanpa memperhatikan kebersihan rongga mulut akan memicu timbulnya kandidiasis oral. Laporan kasus ini bertujuan membahas mengenai kandidiasis oral yang dipicu penggunaan alat ortodonti lepasan. Laporan kasus: Seorang wanita berusia 21 tahun datang ke departemen ilmu penyakit mulut RSGM Unpad dengan keluhan timbul bercak putih pada bagian dalam bibir bawah sebelah kiri dan bagian dalam bibir atas kanan. Bercak ini timbul sejak 5 minggu yang lalu setelah pasien menggunakan alat ortodonti lepasan. Bercak ini tidak terasa sakit ataupun nyeri. Pemberian suspensi nistatin 100.000 IU secara topikal selama seminggu cukup efektif untuk mengatasi infeksi, kemudian pasien dianjurkan untuk rutin membersihkan alat lepasan ortodonti sebelum dan setelah penggunaan. Simpulan: Penggunaan alat ortodonti lepasan apabila tidak dibersihkan dengan benar sebelum dan setelah penggunaan dapat menimbulkan kandidiasis oral.Oral candidiasis triggered by the use of removable orthodontic appliances: a case reportIntroduction: Oral candidiasis is the most common opportunistic infection affecting the oral mucosa. It may occur due to several predisposing factors, including salivary dysfunction, poor oral hygiene, poor denture hygiene, topical corticosteroid therapy, and HIV/AIDS. Removable orthodontic appliances are used to correct dental malocclusions and to improve chewing, swallowing, breathing, and facial aesthetics. However, using removable orthodontic appliances without maintaining good oral hygiene can trigger the emergence of oral candidiasis. This case report aims to present and discuss a case of oral candidiasis triggered by the use of removable orthodontic appliances. Case report: A 21-year-old woman presented to the Oral Medicine Department of RSGM Unpad, with complaints of white patches on the inner left lower lip and inner right upper lip. These lesions appeared approximately five weeks earlier, after the patient began using a removable orthodontic appliance. The patches were asymptomatic, causing no pain or discomfort. Topical administration of nystatin suspension (100,000 IU) for one week was quite effective in resolving the infection. The patient was advised to routinely clean the removable orthodontic appliance before and after use. Conclusion: Removable orthodontic appliances, if not cleaned properly before and after use, may lead to oral candidiasis.]]>
