This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles. The subjects of the research were 24 first-grade students of SDN 007 Long Mesangat. Data collection techniques included participatory observation, reading ability tests (oral and written), and documentation. The implementation of the action focused on using engaging stories, supported by art media such as drawing, singing, and movement games to create an active and enjoyable learning atmosphere. The results showed that the application of the storytelling method and arts successfully improved students' initial reading ability significantly. This was evidenced by the increase in the average scores of students' reading ability tests from the pre-cycle, cycle I, to cycle II. Furthermore, observations indicated an increase in students' enthusiasm, active involvement, and motivation in following the learning process. It was concluded that the integration of storytelling and arts is effective in helping first-grade students overcome initial reading difficulties.
