The songs by Dewa 19, especially “Satu” and “Kangen”, are very attached to their fans from various circles, especially the millennial generation and gen Z. This research aims 1. to find out the diction used in the lyrics of the two songs, as well as 2. to analyze the meaning and 3. relevance of these songs among the younger generation. This research uses descriptive qualitative method by collecting data from sources such as observation of song lyrics on YouTube, journals, and indirect interviews through Google Form. The conclusion of this research is that both songs, “Satu” and “Kangen” have straightforward and emotional diction. In “Satu”, the words create a sense of spirituality and unity, while in “Kangen”, the diction expresses longing and nostalgia. The use of metaphors and hyperbole in the lyrics also enriches the meaning of the songs. The song “Satu” has a connotative meaning while “Kangen” has both lexical and connotative meanings, focusing on unity and the emotion of being separated from a loved one. The reason these songs are popular among the younger generation in East Java is because they are often played in public places such as cafes and coffee shops, and because they are played by their family members. There are also those who say that Dewa 19's songs have immortality.
