This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the problem-based learning (PBL) in improving the understanding of the food chain concept in grade V of SD Inpres Hartaco Indah. The research used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method involving 16 students through 2 cycles. Data were obtained through observation, learning outcome tests, and field notes. The results showed a significant increase in student activity and learning outcomes. In the pre-cycle, only 31% of students achieved the KKM, increasing to 69% in cycle I, and reached 94% in cycle II. Student activity also increased, from the majority being in the "Less Effective" category (44%) in the pre-cycle, to 88% in the "Very Effective" category in cycle II. PBL has been proven effective in improving conceptual understanding through a collaborative, contextual, and student-centered learning approach.
