This study aims to improve the early reading skills of first-grade students at UPT SPF SD Inpres Minasa Upa, Makassar City, through the use of audiovisual media. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 20 first-grade students, consisting of 11 boys and 9 girls. Research instruments included reading tests, observation sheets, and documentation. The results of the study showed an improvement in students' early reading skills after using audiovisual media. In the first cycle, the average student learning result was 55 with a classical completeness of 25%. After improvements were made in the second cycle, the average learning result increased to 77 with classical completeness reaching 100%. The improvement was evident in aspects of intonation accuracy, articulation, and reading fluency. In addition, motivation and students' enthusiasm in participating in learning also increased significantly. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of audiovisual media is effective in improving the initial reading skills of first-grade students at UPT SPF SD Inpres Minasa Upa, Makassar City.
