<![CDATA[This study was motivated by the low reading ability of the beginning of Grade 1 students at Sdn Tanjung. This is evidenced by the results of learning the ability to read the beginning of students who are still under the criteria of Minimal completeness (KKM). One of the learning methods applied to overcome these problems is the phonics method. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of phonics method on the ability to read the beginning of Grade 1 students of Sdn Tanjung. This study uses a quantitative approach with experimental methods. This type of research is Pre-experimental with one-Group Pretest Posttest design. Sampling techniques in this study using saturated sampling techniques. The population of this study is all students of Grade 1 Sdn Tanjung with a sample of 22 students. Data collection techniques used in this study are observation and interview techniques. Based on the results of research and analysis of the discussion, the data in this study are normally distributed and homogeneous with the significance level of data normality 0.200 > 0.05, and the significance level of data homogeneity is 0.001 < 0.05. Hypothesis testing in this study using Paired t-test (t-test). based on the hypothesis test results obtained significance value 0.001 < 0.05. It can be concluded in this study that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that the phonics method has an effect on the reading ability of Grade 1 students of Sdn Tanjung. Based on the results of research that has been conducted, the application of the phonics method in early reading learning has a number of positive impacts on the student learning process, the implementation of learning by teachers, and the development of the quality of learning in schools.]]>
