Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of varying the number of dips on the electrical insulation resistance of PDMS–rice husk silica–graphene oxide composites using a multi-step dip-coating experimental approach. The composite was synthesized using a polydimethylsiloxane matrix combined with biomass silica extracted from rice husks and graphene oxide as a multifunctional filler to enhance the material’s dielectric stability. Dipping variations were performed 1, 3, 5, and 7 times on a glass substrate, then tested using a High Voltage Insulation Tester at 10 kV under dry and wet conditions. Test results showed that the highest insulation resistance was obtained with a single immersion, at 420 GΩ under dry conditions and 100 GΩ under wet conditions. Increasing the number of immersions caused a decrease in resistance due to structural inhomogeneity, filler agglomeration, and an increase in micro-conductive pathways within the composite layer. Wet conditions accelerate the decline in insulation performance because water adsorption on the coating surface increases local conductivity. The integration of PDMS, rice husk silica, and graphene oxide demonstrates high potential as a biomass-based electrical insulator coating with stable dielectric characteristics in humid environments.
