Abstract

This article aims to find out: 1) The need of a TOEFL preparation course book for English Tadris study program students of IAIN Curup, 2) The suitable design of the TOEFL preparation course book for English Tadris study program students of IAIN Curup, 3) The expert validation of the professionals about the TOEFL preparation course book, and 4)The students’ perception toward the TOEFL preparation course book. This is a Research and Development (R&D) study. The development model used in this research is from Borg and Gall. The findings show that there was a need for a TOEFL preparation coursebook because the existing one could not fulfill the students and tutors’ need. The design of the TOEFL preparation book followed the need of the students and the ideal criteria of the coursebook based on theories. After the coursebook was designed, the coursebook was validated by a group of professional in a Focus Group Discussion. Several changes were made in the process. Finally, the final product was tried out in a small group of students, then they were given questionnaire. From the questionnaire, it was found that the students had positive perception toward the coursebook.
