Abstract

This study explores the distribution and hierarchy of service centers in Sleman Regency using the Gutman Scalogram method, Marshall’s Centrality Index, and an analysis of Spatial Interaction Attractiveness. The research addresses the pressing issue of service facility inequality, highlighting the concentration of facilities in certain areas and the limited availability in others. The study identifies Kalasan and Mlati as primary service centers (Order 1) with the most comprehensive facilities, while other districts, such as Minggir and Moyudan, struggle with minimal facilities, reflecting significant disparities. Marshall’s Centrality Index positions Depok as the primary service center, with the highest centrality score of 413.32, indicating superior accessibility and service provision. Conversely, peripheral districts exhibit low centrality, underscoring inadequate infrastructure and access. Spatial interaction analysis reveals that districts with strong connectivity, like Mlati and Ngaglik, exhibit high interaction values, while hinterland areas remain underdeveloped due to poor connectivity and limited population. The findings emphasize the need for equitable service distribution through targeted infrastructure development, enhanced connectivity, and the establishment of secondary service centers to reduce regional disparities. This research contributes to evidence-based spatial planning and offers strategies for inclusive and sustainable regional development.
